Appeals

Margaret Dore, Esq. represents clients on appeal or discretionary review in the Washington State Supreme Court, the Washington State Court of Appeals and the Washington State Superior Court. She also acts as a consultant to other attorneys.

Clients: Ms. Dore represents clients in civil appeals and related matters. Appeal issues have included: real estate covenants; the admissibility of guardian ad litem testimony; property divisions; child custody (the “friendly parent” concept); LID assessments; personal injury; guardianship; probate; anti-harassment orders; and attorney disqualification.
Attorneys: Ms. Dore consults with trial lawyers whose cases are likely to be appealed. This work has included: suggesting objections for the record; assisting with motions for reconsideration; and reviewing proposed orders. See How to Prepare for the Appeal at Trial. Ms. Dore is a former clerk to the Washington State Supreme Court and the Washington State Court of Appeals.

Ms. Dore’s successful cases include In re Guardianship of Stamm, 121 Wn. App. 830, 91 p.3d 126 (2004), which limits the admissibility of guardian ad litem testimony. She also prevailed in the nationally recognized case, Lawrence v. Lawrence, 105 Wn. App. 683, 20 P.3d 972 (2001). For commentary on Lawrence, see Wendy N.
